Lately we’ve been thinking about what we’d like to eat during Trailwalker. So here’s my top five list of walking snacks. What’s yours and do you have any savoury recommendations?
(1) Chocolate Brazil nuts. There’s nothing like a bit of luxury while you’re walking, so my absolute favourites are the Belgian chocolate ones.
(2) Peanut butter and jam bagels. Nearly the perfect walking sandwich - but not quite as I’ve been told that wholemeal bread stuffs are better. I still love them though.
(3) Bananas - ’nuff said.
(4) M&S mini jelly babies - no artificial flavours or colours and you can taste the difference.
(5) Ginger cake - it’s cake (yum) and the ginger helps if you’re feeling a bit sick.

Hi guys,
A couple of things which you may like to consider:
Boiled potatoes with salt (get those carbs in and maintain your electrolyte balance in one - what a winner), Pretzels, Cookies, Salty Crackers, Bananas, Turkey or Chicken or Peanut and Butter Sandwiches, Chicken Noodle or other Soups, GU (or other carbo gels - I think SIS do a good one), chocolate bars, Muesli bars, trail mix (as you will be walking on trails).
In general - eat stuff you like. Try to choose stuff that you can almost constantly nibble all the way around. Your body can only absorb a certain amount of calories at one time, so it’s important to keep the furnaces stoked.
You may also want to consider some electrolyte tablets (which dissolve in your water bottles/camelbacks). I use Nuun which seem ok.
Good luck in your final preparations.
Remember, all the hard work has been done now. In the last couple of weeks you can’t really improve your fitness - so take it easy and conserve your mental and physical energy for the big day (and a bit). We hope to try to catch you en route.
Tom
